Spider Solitaire Windows XP
Spider Solitaire Windows XP is a nostalgic recreation of the retro desktop card game famously bundled with Microsoft's classic operating system. Utilizing a two-deck patience challenge of 104 cards, players sort cards across a ten-column layout. Using drag-and-drop mouse movements, players clear the tableau by building King-to-Ace single-suit columns. Maintain a high score starting from 500 starting points with smart moves.
Setup
- Tableau: 10 columns of cards (54 cards total) dealt at the top. The first 4 columns contain 6 cards; the remaining 6 columns contain 5 cards. Only the top cards are face-up.
- Stockpile: 50 cards placed in the lower-right corner to draw from.
- Foundations: Piles where completed sequences (King to Ace) are removed.
- Decks used: Two standard 52-card decks (104 cards total).
Rules
- Move face-up cards in descending order (e.g., a Red 8 onto a Black 9) regardless of suit.
- Only sequences of cards that are of the same suit and in numerical descending order can be moved together.
- Empty tableau columns can receive any card or valid sequence.
- Deal a new row of 10 cards from the stockpile when stuck. All empty columns must be filled first.
- Form complete King-to-Ace sequences of matching suits to clear them to the foundation.
How to Play
- Choose your difficulty: 1 Suit (Beginner), 2 Suits (Intermediate), or 4 Suits (Advanced).
- Scan the 10 tableau columns and stack cards descendingly to expose face-down cards.
- Prioritize making same-suit piles to keep your sequences movable.
- Move full same-suit sequences to empty columns to clear obstructed piles.
- Draw from the stockpile when no more moves are available. Clear all 104 cards to win.
Scoring
- Starting Score: You begin with 500 points.
- Move Penalty: Every action or undo subtracts 1 point.
- Completed Sequence: Removing a full suit sequence adds 100 points.
Tips
- Keep as many tableau columns empty as possible to easily shift long mixed-suit card columns.
- Prioritize exposing face-down cards in the shallowest piles to increase your options early on.
- In multi-suit games, build sequences in one suit whenever possible to preserve mobility.
