Freecell Windows XP

Freecell Windows XP is a faithful digital recreation of the classic Microsoft solitaire game. Supporting 1 million numbered deals, solvers arrange 52 face-up cards. Utilizing 8 columns and 4 free cells, players can build four foundations from Ace to King. It features the legendary Ctrl+Shift+F10 instant-win cheat and the famously unsolvable game #11982.

Setup

  • Tableau: 8 columns of cards dealt face-up (7 cards each in the first 4 columns, 6 cards each in the last 4).
  • Free Cells: 4 empty temporary slots at the top left.
  • Foundations: 4 empty target piles at the top right.

Controls

  • Move card: Click or tap a card, then click/tap its destination
  • Drag cards: Left-click and drag card to another column or empty cell
  • Select specific game: Press F3 to enter any deal number from 1 to 1,000,000
  • Undo last move: Press Ctrl + Z or click the Undo button
  • Mobile: Smooth tap and drag controls optimized for touchscreens

Classic Cheats & Easter Eggs

  • Instant Win: Press Ctrl + Shift + F10 during gameplay. A dialog box will appear—click Abort, then move any card to instantly win.
  • Impossible Games: Press F3 and enter -1 or -2 to play hidden, unsolvable layouts that do not affect your win statistics.

Rules

  1. Only the top card of a tableau column or a card in a free cell is available for play.
  2. Build tableau columns downward in alternating colors (e.g., placing a red 9 on a black 10).
  3. Move any single card to an empty free cell (each cell holds only one card).
  4. Any card or valid sequence of cards can be placed in an empty tableau column.
  5. Move cards to foundations by suit in ascending order starting with Ace up to King.

Tips

  • Remember that Game #11982 is famously the only unsolvable deal among the original 32,000 games.
  • Prioritize emptying a tableau column as early as possible; empty columns are far more valuable than free cells for moving entire card sequences.
  • Keep at least two free cells open at all times; filling all of them drastically reduces your ability to maneuver card sequences.
