Solitaire Windows XP
Solitaire Windows XP is a nostalgic recreation of the retro desktop card game included in the classic operating system. Utilizing a 52-card Klondike setup, players organize seven tableau columns in alternating descending order. Using drag-and-drop mouse controls, the objective is to build four foundation piles by suit.
Setup
- Tableau: 7 columns of cards (1 to 7 cards). Only the top card of each pile is dealt face-up.
- Stockpile: Remaining cards kept face-down in the corner.
- Foundations: 4 empty slots at the top for sorting cards by suit.
Controls
- Move card: Click and drag cards between columns or double-click to automatically move them to foundations.
- Draw card: Click the face-down Stockpile to flip cards into the waste pile.
- Mobile: Smooth touchscreen drag and drop controls.
Rules
- Tableau cards are built in descending order and alternating colors (e.g., place a red 9 on a black 10).
- Only a King (or a sequence starting with a King) can occupy an empty tableau column.
- When a face-down card is exposed, click it to flip it face-up.
- Build the four foundations up by suit in ascending order starting with the Ace (Ace → 2 → 3... → King).
- Draw from the stockpile (either Draw 1 or Draw 3 mode) when no valid moves are left on the board.
- Clear the entire board by moving all 52 cards into the foundations to trigger the classic bouncing card victory animation.
Tips
- Always prioritize revealing the hidden face-down cards in the largest tableau columns first to expand your moves.
- Avoid creating empty tableau columns unless you have a King ready to place there.
- Double-click cards to quickly send them to foundations, keeping your tableau uncluttered.
