Mahjong
Mahjong Solitaire is a traditional tile-matching puzzle game played with Chinese Mahjong tiles. Utilizing a 144-tile layout, players find and match open identical pairs to clear the board. Using click-to-match controls, the objective is to remove all tiles without running out of moves.
Setup
- Grid: 144 standard Chinese tiles arranged face-up in a layered stack (usually the classic turtle layout).
- Suits: Tiles are divided into suits (Bamboo, Characters, Dots), honors (Dragons, Winds), and bonus groups (Flowers, Seasons).
- Goal: Clear the entire board by matching and removing open pairs of identical tiles.
Controls
- Select tile: Click or tap a free tile to highlight it, then click its matching partner.
- Undo move: Click the Undo button to reverse your previous actions.
- Shuffle board: Click the Shuffle button to rearrange remaining tiles if no matches exist.
- Mobile: Tap tiles directly with clean touch controls.
Rules
- You can only select and match tiles that are free or open.
- A tile is free if it has no tiles placed on top of it, and either its left or right side is completely unblocked.
- Identical tiles match exactly. However, Flower tiles can be matched with any other Flower, and Season tiles can be matched with any other Season.
- Matching pairs are instantly removed from the board, exposing tiles below and adjacent to them.
- The match is completed when all 144 tiles are removed. The game is lost if no open pairs remain.
Tips
- Focus on matching tiles from the top layers and the outer edges to uncover blocked cards beneath them.
- Avoid matching easy pairs at the bottom if they do not free up other tiles; prioritize clearing tall stacks first.
- Scan the board for four matching tiles of the same kind; if you find them, remove them all immediately to avoid deadlocks.
