Block Breaker
Block Breaker is the brick-breaking arcade game Google added to Google Search as an easter egg in January 2025 — not a Google Doodle, as many guides claim. One paddle, one ball, and four rows of bricks in Google's blue, red, yellow and green. Marked bricks drop power-ups such as multiball, paddle-mounted lasers and a safety net, and TNT bricks explode. You get three balls per run. It descends from Atari's 1976 Breakout, which had eight rows and no power-ups at all.
Controls
- Arrow Keys or A / D: Move the paddle left and right (hold the key, the paddle slides while it is down)
- Up Arrow, W or Spacebar: Launch the ball to start each round
- F: Toggle full screen — Esc exits
- M: Mute and unmute
- Touch/Swipe: Supported on phones and tablets
- The mouse does not control the paddle
How to Play
- Press Up, W or Spacebar to launch the ball off your paddle
- Hold the arrow keys or A/D to slide the paddle under the ball
- Bounce the ball into the bricks to break them and score
- Catch falling power-ups with your paddle — miss one and it is gone
- Keep the ball off the floor; you get three balls per run
- Clear every breakable brick to finish the board
Tips
Aim with the paddle. Where the ball hits your paddle sets the angle it leaves at. Corner hits send it out sharply to reach bricks stranded at the edges; a centered hit sends it back steeply.
Carve a channel up one side. Get the ball above the wall and it will rattle along the top, clearing rows without ever coming back down to you.
Do not chase every power-up. Catching one means moving away from where the ball is heading. On your last ball, let the risky ones fall.
Watch for the marked bricks. Bricks carrying a symbol behave differently from plain ones — TNT bricks say so on their face.
