Block Breaker

Block Breaker is a classic arcade brick-busting game inspired by Atari's historic 1976 title, Breakout. Using mouse slides or arrow keys, players slide a horizontal paddle to bounce a ball upward. The objective is to destroy all colored brick layers without letting the ball hit the bottom. Steve Wozniak famously engineered the original cabinet electronics.

Controls

  • Move Paddle (Desktop): Slide mouse horizontally or press Left/Right Arrow (or A/D) keys
  • Launch Ball (Desktop): Press Spacebar or left click mouse
  • Move Paddle (Mobile): Swipe horizontally on the screen to slide paddle

How to Play

  1. Launch the ball by pressing Spacebar or clicking to start the action.
  2. Intercept the descending ball using the horizontal paddle to bounce it back up.
  3. Deflect the ball into the colored brick layers at the top of the grid to shatter them.
  4. Clear all bricks on the screen to advance to the next level.
  5. Prevent the ball from falling below the paddle; losing the ball reduces your available lives by one.

Tips

  • Manipulate reflection angles: Ball trajectory is determined by where it contacts your paddle. Merely tapping with the center sends it straight up, while hitting with the extreme edges deflates it at steep, fast angles.
  • Carve side channels: Aim the ball up the left or right screen borders to get it behind the brick layer, letting it bounce between the ceiling and bricks for rapid automated destruction.
  • Prepare for acceleration: The ball speeds up continuously as you clear more bricks or after hitting the top border, requiring faster paddle adjustments.
