Backgammon

Backgammon is a classic two-player board game where strategy meets luck. You roll two dice and click or drag to move your 15 checkers across 24 triangular points. The objective is to move all your pieces into your home board and bear them off before your opponent. Landing on your opponent's single checker sends it to the bar, forcing them to restart that piece.

Setup

  • Board: 24 triangular points divided into four quadrants.
  • Checkers: Each player starts with 15 checkers placed in a specific starting formation.
  • Goal: Move all 15 checkers into your home board and bear them off (remove them from the board).

Rules

  1. Roll two dice. The numbers indicate how many points you can move your checkers.
  2. You can move one checker the total of both dice or move two different checkers.
  3. Checkers can only land on an empty point, a point with your own checkers, or a point with exactly one opponent checker (a "blot").
  4. If you roll doubles (e.g., two 3s), you get four moves of that number.

How to Play

  1. Click the "Roll" button to throw the dice.
  2. Click and drag a checker to a valid point to move it toward your home board.
  3. If you land on an opponent's blot, it is sent to the middle bar. They must roll to re-enter before making any other moves.
  4. Once all 15 of your checkers are in your home board, use dice rolls to bear them off to win.

Tips

  • Secure your 5-point early — it creates a strong defensive anchor.
  • Avoid leaving "blots" (single checkers) exposed to your opponent's attacks.
  • Build a "prime" (consecutive occupied points) to block your opponent from escaping.
